Why Does Healing Feel So Bad Sometimes?

Understanding the body's role in surviving and recovering from abuse
October 5, 2013: Workshop Presentation at WINGS Foundation Soaring to New Heights Conference
For many survivors, the process of recovery seeks to focus on the mental, emotional, and social impact their abuse has left them to cope with.  In gaining a newfound sense of support or employing new strategies to thrive instead of just survive, they experience strength and empowerment and perhaps a sense of hope about the future.  Inevitably however, it seems that the effect of these new resources wear off and their ability to sustain positive changes wanes or even disappears, leaving them to feel abandoned and a failure all over again.

Press Release

David2---200pxConnexus is the private practice home to licensed psychotherapist  and organizational consultant David Clift. I offer counseling & therapy to individuals and  couples in Denver, CO, and organizational consulting services and trainings nationwide.  With a wide array of personal and professional  experiences, my mission and passion is to assist others who wish to create a better environment for themselves, their organizations and communities, their children, and their world.  I believe strongly it is the changes we make within ourselves and our communities that have a ripple effect on our entire world.

All of my clients--whether individuals in counseling, a  business, or a community organization--share one common challenge: they feel stuck and wish not to be. Whatever the case may be for you, I invite you to contact me to see if I might be a good fit to help you get unstuck. They feel stuck in how they have always addressed the same problem and feel hopeless about things changing for the better.  It may  be a perpetual, limiting, yet hard to identify thought pattern that feeds upon the feelings and actions it generates.  It may simply be a bad habit that no one has thought to challenge or dared to question.

My guiding philosophy assumes that you have been doing everything you know to be successful.  Perhaps you have become dissatisfied with the usefulness of the skills you have employed and would like guidance in developing new skills.  Perhaps you are at the end of your rope and feel as though you have run out of options.  Whatever your particular situation and history, I offer a safe and understanding process, designed to provide you with an experience of caring and understanding.  In such an environment, you are encouraged to take risks to try out new ways of thinking and behaving that, until now, have felt too overwhelming or simply unrealistic.  I always look to understand the reason for the stuck patterns, because if they didn't work in SOME way, you would have done away with them long ago.  Change is difficult, yet with the right support and guidance, taking the steps into the unknown can be the most empowering experience of our lives.
